Thank You from Ikasi Youth – Everyday Heroes Club 2014 Camp
What an incredible way to start the new year, 2014. Ikasi Youth’s ‘Everyday Heroes Club’ embarked on an exciting weekend away at Wortelgat Outreach Trust Camp. These three adventure filled days are ones that six of our boys and five team leaders are not going to soon forget any time soon. After a tough year for the boys, this camp served as a light at the end of the tunnel. And it exceeded all expectation.
We would like to send our deep heartfelt thanks to the History Maker Foundation, and Joe Pancaldi (up in heaven), for sponsoring all of the camp costs and making it possible for us to share this experience. It was a time out in nature that Joe would have embraced with both arms.
“My strongest memories of Joe were the way that he loved to laugh and loved to explore God in nature. This camp was filled (to overflowing) with both of these.” Nathan Roberts (Ikasi Youth Founder and close friend of Joe)
The boys highlights of the camp included learning archery, physical team building challenges, kayaking, rock wall climbing, and a scary solo night walk. There may have even been a pillow fight (or two) all in the name of quality camp fun. The boys were able to have a blast working together and learned a lot about the importance of perseverance and communication. As the camp progressed their individual attributes shone through as they all strove to work together and fulfill both skills of leadership and support for one another.
All the boys received certificates for the unique ways they each contributed to the club in 2013 and it was a wonderful for us to hear feedback from the boys regarding this past year and areas in which we can strive to further support them. Our support team also had some great opportunities to sit down and plan for the upcoming year and reflect on the feedback from the boys. After the weekend at Wortelgat we feel energized for the year and know that the boys will be greatly looking forward to future camps as well!
